On September 19, a 45-year-old woman and her husband in An Thoi Ward tested positive for Covid-19. After that, nine other porters who came into contact with her husband also tested positive for the virus.

The area where the patients are living has been locked down. The Covid-19 testing is being conducted in An Thoi Ward.

Local authorities have defined 44 people who came into contact with the patients. They have been all quarantined.

By September 20, Phu Quoc was among 10 districts and cities of Kien Giang to be allowed for loosening social distancing measures in line with the government’s Directive 19.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's proposal on a pilot plan to welcome international tourists with vaccine passports to Phu Quoc Island in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang for six months from October.
