A cold air mass has affected most northern and north-central provinces and is expected to extend west and south into parts of central Vietnam, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
At Mau Son peak in Lang Son Province, temperatures dropped to around 10 degrees Celsius on the morning of November 3.
During this spell, temperatures in the north and north-central regions are forecast at 16-19 degrees Celsius, dipping below 15 degrees in mountainous areas. In Hanoi, light rain and chilly weather are expected from November 3, with lows of 17-19 degrees Celsius.
Highland areas, including Sin Ho in Lai Chau, Pha Din in Dien Bien, Sapa in Lao Cai, Dong Van in Ha Giang and Tam Dao in Vinh Phuc, have fallen below 12 degrees Celsius.
Forecast provider AccuWeather said temperatures in Hanoi will remain around 18-19 degrees Celsius on November 4, then rise by one to two degrees daily to reach 23-28 degrees by the weekend.
The weather centre warned that the intensified cold front will continue to bring heavy rain from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai.
