The class has been run by a voluntary group since April 2021.

Hoang Dieu Thuan, a member of the club, said that the class takes place at 9-11 every Saturday morning for children aged 6-7. At the class, the children are taught different subjects, including literature and English. They also have time to read books and play games.

The class is sometimes arranged based on what the children are interested in.

The class’s teachers are volunteers of different ages and jobs, including students. On Saturday mornings, teachers visit students to inform them about the class. Thuan explained that the number of patients usually varies, so teachers go through what the class covers.

Thuan said that she was really moved by the enthusiasm and strength of will the children have. Many of them have experienced chemotherapy but still try to attend class.
The class helps the children connect with each other and relax during the treatment. The teachers have gradually become friends.
A nine-year-old boy from the northern central province of Ha Tinh has been staying at the hospital for six months. He misses his classmates, so joining the Saturday class at the hospital helped console him.
Another boy, 13, in Ha Tinh has been hospitalised since April this year. During the treatment, he always tries to follow the study in his class. Every day, he calls his classmates to take photos of the lessons and send them online. For difficult exercises that he can’t deal with, he often calls his teachers for help.
The hospital class also helps give him more joy.
