Nearly 70 universities and educational organisations from 18 European Union member states joined the European Education Fair on Sunday, including Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden.

The event marked deepening education ties between the EU and Vietnam, creating a platform for exchange and collaboration between European institutions and the Vietnamese academic community.

Beyond exhibition booths, panel discussions and alumni sessions offered practical insights into life and learning in Europe, where knowledge is driven by openness, diversity and creativity.

The Higher Education Week continued on Monday with a joint Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe Day, a core element of the programme that aims to boost cooperation between Vietnamese and European higher education institutions.

For the first time, the two EU flagship programmes were featured together, forming a more integrated environment for academics and institutions to build partnerships, co-develop knowledge and explore innovative solutions.

Speaking at the fair in Hanoi, Rafael de Bustamante, Charge d’Affaires of the EU Delegation to Vietnam, said studying in Europe often carries financial benefits due to strong public support and government subsidies. Europe offers the largest number of scholarships worldwide, helping students from all backgrounds access high-quality education.

“Europe proudly contributes to the learning and development journey of young Vietnamese, enabling students from all walks of life to thrive,” he said.

The 2025 European Higher Education Week is held under the theme Plug in to Evolution, a communication and public diplomacy initiative within the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy.

According to the EU Delegation to Vietnam, about 40,000 Vietnamese students are studying in EU member states, accounting for nearly 30 per cent of Vietnamese students abroad.
