British man among seven new imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam

A British national and six Vietnamese citizens who recently arrived in Vietnam have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,504.

A British national and six Vietnamese citizens who recently arrived in Vietnam from the US, the UAE, the Philippines and Japan have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,504, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday evening.

According to the ministry's report, the 36-year-old British man arrived from Dubai at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport on January 2.

He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and is now being treated at the Cu Chi Fields Hospital for Covid-19 patients.

The other six patients are Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from the US, the Philippines and Japan and were sent to quarantine areas in Hanoi, Ben Tre, and Hai Duong provinces upon arrival.


They are now being treated at local hospitals.

With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 810.


As of 6 pm on January 5, a total of 1,339 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 19,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
