According to Huynh Trung Luan, director of Dak Lak Elephant Conservation Centre, due to old age, the female elephant H’Non lost all of her teeth, causing eating difficulties.

The elephant died at the age of 80
Luan added that the elephant was previously managed by a tourism company in Buon Don District. In 2017, it was sent to Yok Don National Park for being taken care of.
"One week before her death, H'Non seemed exhausted and remained prone, lying in just one place. On April 5, she died. Authorities conducted an autopsy, concluding that problems of old age were the cause of the death.
Dak Lak is now home to 40 domesticated elephants, including 19 elderly specimens which are no longer able to give birth. In 2017, a domesticated elephant in Dak Lak was pregnant after 30 years of waiting. However, the baby elephant died before being born.
The province is facing the extinction of elephants as many have become old. Meanwhile, a number of local elephants have been used for tourism services, which have seriously affected their health.
