The man, who is on holiday in the central city of Hoi An, also boarded the same flight with the country's 17th Covid-19 case Nguyen Hong Nhung from London to Hanoi on March 2.

So far, 16 out of 17 new cases have related to that 17th patient.

Earlier this morning, a 24-year-old Vietnamese woman who is a friend of Nhung and recently met her in London was reported the 32nd case.

The woman, who lives in London, hired a private plane to fly to Vietnam and was admitted by the Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Health on March 9.

She tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus on Tuesday morning and had fever and coughs.

The country has recorded 17 new cases in five days – starting with the discovery of 17th case late last Friday, since the 16th positive case in the country was successfully treated and discharged on February 26.

The other cases included 11 foreign tourists and a Vietnamese man who boarded the same flight from London to Vietnam with the country’s 17th COVID-19 patient, two Vietnamese nationals who had close contact with her, and one 27-year-old Vietnamese man returning from Republic of Korea’s coronavirus epicentre Daegu on March 3.

Authorities in many provinces and cities have searched for and quarantined hundreds of people who have been in contact with the passengers from the flight. 36 of the them have come to Hoi An City.

Many hotels and tourist sites in Hanoi, Ha Long, Ninh Binh, Hue, and Hoi An have been suspended and closed after their visits.
