A leader of the Nui Cam Commune People's Committee in An Giang told local media on June 11 that authorities were verifying reports of a crocodile sighting in the area.
Earlier, at about 9 am on June 10, the Nui Cam Commune People's Committee received reports from residents about a crocodile allegedly seen in the Vinh Tre Canal area of Tan Thanh Hamlet, Nui Cam Commune.
To ensure the safety of local residents and their property, authorities urged people living along canals and waterways to remain vigilant and pay close attention to their surroundings.
Residents travelling by boat or working on rivers and canals have been advised not to underestimate potential risks while carrying out daily activities on the water.
The commune has also warned parents not to allow children to swim, fish or play near canal and riverbanks until authorities issue a notice confirming that the area is safe.
Officials said that anyone who discovers signs of a crocodile or encounters the animal should not attempt to capture, provoke or approach it.
Instead, residents are advised to move to a safe location immediately and report the sighting to the nearest authorities so that appropriate measures can be taken.
Local authorities are continuing to investigate the reports and assess the situation.
