The number of new Covid-19 infections continued to drop with 3,123 cases recorded on Monday, down 595 cases from the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 53 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (761), Phu Tho (185), Yen Bai (176), Quang Ninh (151), and Bac Ninh (150).
As of Monday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 10.65 million. The country now stands 12th among 227 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,587,690), HCM City (608,476), Nghe An (481,842), Bac Giang (385,296), and Binh Duong (383,418).
On May 2, an additional 1,090 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.26 million.
On Monday evening, two deaths related to Covid-19 were announced in Dong Nai and Ha Nam provinces, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 43,044.
Vietnam on May 1 administered 51,917 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 214.99 million.
