Police of Quang Ninh Province arrested Manager Nguyen Viet Ngu, and Vice Manager Tran Van Thien, of Mao Khe Coal Single Member Limited Company on May 12.

On May 11, the police decided to file charges against the two above mentioned people and issued arrest warrants against them. They are charged with causing serious consequences due to irresponsibility according to Article 285 of the penal code.
Vietnam Coal-Mineral Industries Group (TKV) decided to dismiss Nguyen Viet Ngu from the company on May 12 and Nguyen Ngoc Co, who was Manager of Uong Bi Coal Company will replace Ngu’s position as of May 15.
The police are searching the homes and working places of Ngu and Thien to collect further information according to legal regulations.
The police also decided to arrest and charge 5 relevant people of the company who were accused of receiving bribes, causing serious damages for irresponsibility and violating regulations on exploring and deploying natural resources.
Relevant authorities of Quang Ninh province confirmed that coal was stolen from the Mao Khe coal mine during Tet and it was a complicated case. Security staff of the company played a role and assisted the robbers.
The police are still investigating the matter to come up with appropriate punishment against related arrestees.
Previously, Ngu was asked to suspend running his office from May 2 to 15 in order to review his personal responsibility and a leader’s responsibility when coal was stolen during Tet holiday in 15 places of Mao Khe coal mine which is under control of the company.
It’s estimated that there was thousands of tonnes of coal stolen. According to local people, before taking action, coal robbers has a very well-thought out plan to steal the coal during the Tet holiday.
They gathered over 20 excavators and transportation vehicles at Vinh Phu, Vinh Lam areas, Mao Khe Town; Trai Ha area, Yen Tho Commune, Dong Trieu District.
Then they kept working day and night from February 12 to 15 to steal coal.
The People’s Committee of Dong Trieu District also decided to remove Chairman and Party Committee Secretary of Mao Khe Town from their current posts.
