Nguyen Tien Anh has received a free heart surgery

The figures were revealed at a meeting held on Sunday to review the outcomes of the "Hearts for Children" programme, which was co-launched by the Vietnam Television and Military-run telecommunications company Viettel Group.

According to one report from the meeting, the programme has provided free surgeries for children of low-income families with congenital heart defects, since 2008.

The programme has also hosted free heart check-ups for over 150,000 children across the country.

In addition to the donation of VND 70 billion from Viettel, the programme has gathered donations worth nearly VND 200 billion from organisations and individuals both in and outside of Vietnam.

At the meeting, some donors also pledged to contribute a total of VND 18 billion to continue the programme in 2023.
