The first four months saw 9,640 accidents in which more than 3,360 people were killed, according to a report released by the National Traffic Safety Committee.

The death toll was up by 12 from the same period last year though the number of accidents declined by 2,000.

In April alone, there were 725 deaths and 1,870 injuries.
