Railway puts 300,000 Tet tickets on sale

Vietnam's railway sector began selling around 300,000 tickets on Saturday for the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday, with discounts of up to 20 per cent available for some passengers and journeys.

Tickets went on sale nationwide at 8 am on September 5 to meet increased travel demand during the Tet travel period from January 23 to February 25, 2027.

The railway will operate 57 trains with more than 800 carriages during the period.

Seven pairs of through trains will run daily, including SE1/SE2, SE3/SE4, SE5/SE6, SE7/SE8, SE9/SE10, SE11/SE12 and SE23/SE24, along with two additional pairs, TN3/TN4 and TN5/TN6, between Hanoi and HCM City.

Eleven pairs of regional passenger trains will also operate daily, with additional services on the HCM City-Vinh, HCM City-Quang Ngai and Nha Trang-HCM City routes.

During the Tet holiday from February 5 to 8, additional trains may be operated between HCM City and Danang, Tam Ky, Dieu Tri and Nha Trang, as well as between Hanoi and Vinh, depending on passenger demand.

Each passenger can book up to 10 tickets for the outbound journey and 10 for the return journey.

University, academy, college and vocational students will receive discounts of 10-20% during the Tet travel period, while groups of at least 11 passengers will be offered discounts of 2-12 per cent, depending on group size, booking time and itinerary.

Passengers booking return journeys will receive a 5 per cent discount on the return leg, while those booking at least 10 days in advance for journeys of more than 900km can receive discounts of 5-20 per cent.

Discounts of 3-5 per cent will also apply to selected Reunification Express services on specified dates before and after Tet.
