According to police, the discovery was reported on March 6 by a 65-year-old resident who was collecting scrap along Ke Ga Beach.

While walking along the shoreline, the man noticed a grey plastic bag drifting toward the coast and brought it home. When he opened it, he found 24 tightly wrapped rectangular packages inside.

Each package measures roughly 20cm by 10cm by 5cm and weighs about 1.2 kilograms. Some of the packages were damaged, revealing white crystalline powder suspected to be narcotics.

After receiving the report, police in Tan Thanh Commune, Lam Dong Province quickly secured and sealed the suspected drug packages before reporting the case to higher authorities for further investigation and forensic testing.

Officials are continuing to work with relevant agencies to determine the origin and nature of the suspected drugs.

Authorities said the discovery of suspected drug packages washing ashore is not the first incident reported in the area.

Previously, in February 2024, a resident brought a sealed plastic package to the border guard station after finding it drifting near the coast. The package, resembling a tea bag and measuring about 30 x 10 x 7 cm, was tightly sealed at both ends. After examination, authorities confirmed the substance to be Ketamine weighing approximately 999.51 grams.

Due to repeated discoveries of suspected drug packages along the coast, authorities have warned residents and fishermen in coastal areas not to open or keep unfamiliar objects found at sea.

Plastic bags, foam boxes or sealed packages drifting ashore may be linked to drug trafficking operations or discarded by smugglers during transportation.

Therefore, when encountering suspicious items, people are advised to immediately report them to the nearest police or border guard units for proper handling in accordance with regulations.

Police are also increasing patrols along the coastline and continuing to search the area around Ke Ga Beach for additional evidence or clues related to the case.
