According to the ministry's report, 19 of the newly found patients were all infected in the community and linked to the hotspot Hai Duong province and Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh Province. They include 14 in Hai Duong, four in Quang Ninh, and one in Gia Lai provinces.
The new virus outbreak has so far spread to ten provinces and cities including Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Gia Lai, Hoa Binh, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Phong, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City.
The imported patient is a 25-year-old Vietnamese man who returned from Japan at Danang International Airport on February 1.
He was sent to a quarantine area in Quang Nam Province upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on February 2.
The patient is now being treated at the Quang Nam Provincial General Hospital.
With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,911, including 1,022 locally-transmitted cases with 329 cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28.
As of 6 pm on February 3, a total of 1,461 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, as many as 48,829 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
