The figures were updated on November 7 by the Department of Disaster Prevention in the central and Central Highlands regions.
Heavy rains started on October 31 and continued throughout the week, destroying 225 houses and submerged 42,812 others. Over 13,000 hectares of rice and vegetable have been flooded, while more than 6,300 heads of cattle and 44,200 poultry were killed and swept away. Initial losses have amounted to over VND590 billion (USD26.5 million), the department reported.

Phu Yen province suffered the heaviest loss, with seven killed and one missing. Quang Binh had three deaths while Quang Tri and Binh Dinh each lost two residents. The last victim was from Dak Lak province, said the report.
The Phu Yen provincial People’s Committee has asked the government to urgently send 1,100 tonnes of rice as aid relief for some 11,200 people affected by the flooding.
Flood waters have fully receded in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue provinces by November 6 but many areas in Phu Yen and Dak Lak were still flooded.
The Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention warned the provinces to keep monitoring rain and flood forecast and be prepared to evacuate residents from areas prone to flash flooding and landslides in the central and Central Highlands regions
