Vung Tau sandwich poisoning cases rise

The number of people hospitalised after eating sandwiches at a local shop in Vung Tau City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, had increased to 117 by Wednesday evening.

Vung Tau People’s Committee Chairman Hoang Vu Thanh oversaw an urgent meeting with relevant agencies regarding the case on November 27.

At the meeting, Thanh stated that by Wednesday evening, a total of 117 people had been hospitalised due to food poisoning symptoms after eating sandwiches at CB Bakery in Ward 7. Of those, 82 have been discharged; fortunately, none are in severe or life-threatening condition.

All establishments involved in the incident will be temporarily suspended from operations for investigation and will await the authorities’ conclusions.

The police have been urged to work with concerned agencies to determine the cause of the incident.

The Vung Tau Police and the municipal Department of Economics are investigating the product source at four bread production facilities, one pork production facility, and one sausage production facility.

The patients ate sandwiches at CB Bakery between 4 and 11 pm on November 26. They then struggled with abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea.
