Lan finished with a time of 52.06 seconds, 0.47 second slower than the Bahrain gold medallist, Oluwakemi Mujidat Adekoya and 0.30 second faster than Machettira Raju Poovamma of India, who took the bronze medal.
Another Vietnamese sprinter, Nguyen Thi Huyen finished seventh in the same category, clocking a final time of 53.79 seconds.
‘Speed queen’, Vu Thi Huong – one of Vietnam’s golden hopes – did not live up to expectations as she missed out on medal following a fifth-place finish (11.68 seconds) in the women’s 100m dash final on the same day.
Boxer Luu Thi Duyen made it through to the women’s light (57-60kg) semifinal after edging out Mavzuna Chorieva of Tajikistan 2-1 in the quarterfinal round. Duyen’s teammate, Le Thi Bang also qualified for the women’s fly (48-51kg) semifinal following her 3-0 quarterfinal victory over Filipino Josie Gabuco.
After day nine of competition, the Vietnam sports delegation temporarily ranked 15th of 45 participating countries with a 28-medal tally – one gold, seven silver and 20 bronze.
