HCM City launches a fleet of 70 electric cars from April 12, 2024 to transport tourists around the city centre.
HCM City Transport Department launched 70 electric cars last April to transport tourists around the city centre.
Under the project's first phase, which was scheduled to last until the end of 2025, the eight-seat vehicles will transport visitors around districts 1, 4, 5, and 6. Tickets range between VND120,000 and VND250,000 for a 30-minute trip. Operating hours are from 6 am to midnight daily.
Pick-up and drop-off locations will be agreed upon with tourist accommodation establishments and attractions. The area for vehicles serving tourism will be at 23/9 Park in District 1.
However, a new decree will take effect on February 15, and these vehicles will be suspended. They can only operate on roads with 30km/h speed limit signage.
The operating company, Saigon Public Transport Co., Ltd, has said they have had to cancel all bookings until June while waiting for further instructions from local authorities.
"There are currently no streets in HCM City with the 30 km/h speed limit signs," the company said. "We've proposed to local authorities to raise the speed limit to 50 km/h so the electric sightseeing vehicles can operate."
Earlier, another electric sightseeing vehicle operator in the tourist city of Dalat has also sent a proposal to the government regarding the same issue.
