The additional trains will mainly operate between Ho Chi Minh City and Danang, Tam Ky and Nha Trang during the peak travel period from February 15 to February 20, 2026, covering the final days of the lunar year and the start of Tet.
They include extra Ho Chi Minh City-Danang and Ho Chi Minh City-Tam Ky departures on February 15, along with several Ho Chi Minh City-Nha Trang services on the first and second days of Tet. Return services from Nha Trang, Danang and Tam Ky to Ho Chi Minh City will also be added in the days after the holiday.
Railway officials said the Lunar New Year transport plan will run from February 3 to March 8, 2026, deploying 55 trains, more than 800 carriages and about 335,000 long-distance tickets. Ticket sales opened on September 20, 2025.
As of December 22, around 140,000 Tet tickets had been sold, equivalent to 62 per cent of sales recorded over the same period ahead of the 2025 Lunar New Year, the operator said.
Remaining tickets are largely available for travel before Tet, particularly from February 3 to February 9 and from February 14 to February 16, mainly on routes from southern stations to Vinh, Thanh Hoa and Hanoi.
During peak travel days from February 10 to February 14, only about 700 long-distance seats remain across all services departing from Ho Chi Minh City, Di An and Bien Hoa for Vinh and Hanoi.
Ticket availability is expected to remain relatively ample on most routes during and after Tet, according to Vietnam Railways.
