The formations, which took off from Hoa Lac and Gia Lam air bases, included Mi-series helicopters, Casa transport planes, Yak-130 and L-39NG trainer jets, and SU-30MK2 fighter aircraft.

The performance began with a formation of Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-171 and Mi-172 helicopters carrying the national and Party flags over Ba Dinh Square.

The helicopters then flew past the Flag Tower of Hanoi, one of the capital’s historic landmarks, to the applause of thousands of spectators who had gathered for hours to watch.

From Gia Lam air base, three transport aircraft – one Casa C-295 flanked by two Casa C-212s – joined the formation and flew across central Hanoi. Moments later, six Yak-130 jets flew in a perfect triangular formation, followed by four L-39NG aircraft flying in tight alignment.

From Kep air base in Bac Giang province, two squadrons of SU-30MK2 fighter jets roared into Hanoi’s skies. A five-jet formation thundered over Ba Dinh Square, creating one of the most striking moments of the morning.

In a highlight of the show, Yak-130 and SU-30MK2 aircraft released dazzling flares during their second pass over the square, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

The powerful and visually stunning display underscored the strength and modernisation of the Vietnam People’s Air Force, leaving a deep impression on those in attendance.
