In September, terraced rice fields cascade along the mountain slopes like vibrant silk ribbons, making anyone who sets foot here feel as if they have stepped into a majestic natural painting.

Mu Cang Chai was once praised by travel site Wanderlust Storytellers as a place ranking first on its list of 25 destinations with astonishingly surreal beauty.

Golden rice, blending with fresh green vegetation, paints the valley in its signature seasonal hues. Morning mist and soft sunlight drape it in a silky glow, while at sunset the terraces gleam like steps of gold, luring visitors eager to capture its beauty.

From late August to early September, many visitors arrive early in Mu Cang Chai to admire its lush terraced rice fields.

Pham Ha from Hanoi said this was her second trip to Mu Cang Chai. After last year’s crowded peak season, she booked her tour earlier this time. The 3-day, 2-night package cost VND 2.7 million, including meals and transport, while motorbike rides and photo site fees were paid separately. “Many tourists chose to come early like me,” she added.

Mam Xoi Hill (La Pan Tan), known as the heart of Mu Cang Chai’s golden season, features terraced fields curving like a giant rice tray and is the area’s most famous check-in spot.

The terraced fields of Mu Cang Chai embody the labour and wisdom of the H'mong and Thai people. Each plot reflects centuries of cultivation, transforming barren mountain slopes into fertile fields that not only sustain life but also stand as a cultural wonder captivating visitors.
