Drone controls tightened at tourist sites in Tuyen Quang

Authorities in Tuyen Quang Province are stepping up controls on drones at popular tourist sites as aerial filming becomes increasingly common among visitors.

Tham Ma and Chin Khoanh passes, popular stops on the Dong Van Karst Plateau, draw visitors with their mountain scenery and winding roads. As both are in a border area, drone flights require official approval.

To prevent violations, officers from Pho Bang Border Guard Station have joined local military and police forces in distributing leaflets and explaining drone regulations at tourist sites and other crowded areas.

Tourism businesses, drivers, tour guides and visitors are being informed about prohibited activities and penalties for violations.

Under Government Decree 79/2026/ND-CP, illegally launching, releasing or operating aircraft in or across border areas can carry fines of VND 40-75 million (USD 1,520-2,850). Equipment used in violations may also be confiscated.

Giang Xuan Thang, Secretary of the Pho Bang Commune Party Committee and Chairman of the commune People's Council, said growing visitor numbers had increased demand for aerial photography.

Local authorities have therefore stepped up information campaigns at busy tourist sites and encouraged businesses, drivers and tour guides to inform visitors about drone restrictions upon arrival.

Authorities will also continue inspections to detect and prevent unauthorised drone flights, aiming to ensure tourism activities comply with regulations and maintain safety in the area.
