Passengers at Terminal 3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
Vietnam Airlines will transfer all remaining domestic flights from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 at HCM City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport starting May 17, except for a few short-haul routes to Con Dao, Rach Gia, and Ca Mau.
A Tan Son Nhat International Airport representative confirmed the information on the morning of May 14, following an agreement with the national flag carrier. Other airlines, including VietJet Air, Pacific Airlines, Vasco, Vietravel Airlines, and Bamboo Airways, will continue to operate at Terminal 1 as usual.
Flights operated with ATR72 aircraft on routes to Con Dao, Ca Mau, and Rach Gia will remain at Terminal 1 under Vietnam Airlines.
Terminal 3 has been operational since April 17. So far, Vietnam Airlines has only transferred flights on two routes, HCM City to Hanoi and Van Don, to this terminal. After nearly a month, the airline has operated more than 1,400 flights and served close to 400,000 passengers at the new terminal.
At Terminal 3, Vietnam Airlines has set up check-in counters from 56 to 109, along with 22 self-service kiosks. Additional staff have been deployed to ensure a smooth transition.
Tan Son Nhat's Terminal 3 is the largest domestic terminal in the country. Its designed capacity is 20 million passengers per year, raising the airport's total capacity to 50 million annually.
