South Korea tops Vietnam’s foreign tourist markets

Vietnam welcomed nearly 4.7 million foreign visitors in the first two months of the year, up 17.7 per cent year-on-year, with South Korea remaining the largest source market.

According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam received 2.2 million foreign arrivals in February alone. Visitors from Asia accounted for about 3.4 million arrivals, representing 73 per cent of the total.

South Korea led all markets with about 971,000 visitors, up around 10 per cent year-on-year, driven by strong demand for beach holidays, golf and family travel, as well as convenient air links between the two countries.

China ranked second, while Russia, Taiwan, the United States, India, Japan and Malaysia remained stable. European markets posted strong growth, led by Britain (17.1 per cent), France (19.8 per cent) and Germany (17.5 per cent). Cambodia fell from third place last month to ninth.

Tourism authorities said the growth from Northeast Asia, ASEAN, Europe and long-haul markets reflects an increasingly diversified and balanced structure of Vietnam’s inbound tourism.

Amid intensifying global competition among destinations, Vietnam’s tourism sector continues to benefit from a stable political and social environment, which has helped strengthen international traveller confidence and enhance the country’s appeal.

Tourism revenue in the first two months reached an estimated VND 15 trillion (USD 570 million), up 12.2 per cent year-on-year, driven by strong domestic and international travel during the early-year period and the Lunar New Year holiday.

Several localities reported strong tourism growth. Danang served an estimated 2.46 million visitors in the first two months of 2026, up 10.8 per cent year-on-year, according to the city’s statistics office.

In An Giang province, authorities estimated 5.9 million visitors during the same period, up 12.8 per cent, with tourism revenue reaching about VND 15.75 trillion, a 59.9 per cent increase from a year earlier.

The Lunar New Year travel surge also reflects shifting tourism trends, with travellers increasingly booking online, seeking personalised experiences and opting for longer stays tied to local culture and heritage.
