Nearly 300 tourists leave cas rough seas ease

Nearly 300 tourists, most of them foreign visitors, returned to the mainland from Cu Lao Cham off Danang City on Friday after rough seas that had stranded them on the island eased.

Authorities on Tan Hiep Island Commune worked with maritime agencies and tour operators to bring the visitors ashore in several trips after weather conditions improved, Pham Thi My Huong, chairwoman of the commune, said.

Boat services between Cu Lao Cham and the mainland had been suspended after the Central Regional Hydro-Meteorological Centre forecast moderate sea conditions with south to southwesterly winds of force 4 to 5, gusting to force 6, for July 16.

The suspension, ordered by the Danang Maritime Port Authority for safety reasons, left hundreds of tourists unable to leave the island as planned, including many foreign visitors with onward flights or travel plans.

As conditions improved on Friday morning, local authorities approved a plan to resume transport. Tour operators deployed high-speed boats to collect passengers in stages while officials monitored the crossings to ensure safety.

By Friday afternoon, all of the affected tourists had reached the mainland safely, with no incidents reported, Huong said.
