According to authorities in Danang's Thanh Binh Commune the cave complex is thought by researchers to have formed hundreds of millions of years ago, making it one of the oldest rock formations in the Quang Nam - Danang region.
The cave features numerous narrow passages and chambers. Although its entrance is not very deep, the interior is extremely dark and difficult to navigate.

Rock slabs inside the cave clearly display signs of foliation, folding and tectonic deformation, geological evidence of powerful movements in the Earth’s crust over millions of years.

Local residents say the cave was once home to large colonies of bats, which gave rise to its name, “Bat Cave”. Today, however, the number of bats has sharply declined due to hunting and shrinking feeding habitats, and sightings have become rare.

During the wars against France and the United States, the cave also served as a base for revolutionary forces, according to local officials.

Authorities recently recognised the site as a provincial-level heritage site, acknowledging its unique geological and historical value. The designation is expected to open opportunities for eco-tourism development while preserving natural resources and the area’s revolutionary heritage.
