The vessel was intercepted during a patrol and law-enforcement operation on August 16.

At about 12.30 am, approximately 90 nautical miles southwest of Hon Khoai, Ca Mau Province, Coast Guard vessel 360, part of a patrol unit operated by the Region 4 Command, detected the vessel TG 914xx-TS behaving suspiciously and moved to inspect it.

Five crew members were on board, led by captain Ho Hong Diep, born in 1971 and residing in Tan Dien Commune, Dong Thap Province.

Diep told authorities that the vessel was carrying about 130,000 litres of diesel without invoices or other documents proving the fuel's legal origin.

The Region 4 Coast Guard Command made a record of the seized goods, sealed the cargo and escorted the vessel to Phu Quoc Special Zone in An Giang Province for further investigation and legal proceedings.
