A woman in Y Ty Commune in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai. The northern region of Vietnam is expected to face a strong cold spell from January 25.
According to the Vietnam National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold snap will arrive with rain and cause the temperatures to sharply fall to between 9-12 degrees Celsius in lowland localities and 6-8 degrees in mountainous areas, and even to below 3 degrees in mountain peaks.
Central provinces from Quang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue will also be affected with average temperatures falling to 14-17 degrees Celsisus.
Northern coastal areas will see strong winds and high waves rising up to three metres on January 26.
The cold spell is forecasted to last three days.
