Park Hang-seo returns as consultant of newly-established football club
Former coach of Vietnamese national football team Park Hang-seo has just signed a contract to become a consultant of the newly-established Bac Ninh Football Club who will play in Vietnamese Football League Second Division for the 2024 season.
The Bac Ninh Football Club was established in December 2023 under a plan to develop local football by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and is now recruiting a number of players for the 2024 season.
Ngo Quang Truong, former head coach of Song Lam Nghe A Football Club, has been chosen as head coach of Bac Ninh.
Although the payment for Park has not been disclosed, it is said that local authorities have paid a large sum to have had a contract with him.
Park was appointed head coach of the Vietnamese national men’s football team in 2017. He helped the local U23 team reach the finals of the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, finish fourth at the 2018 Asian Games, and won in the SEA Games in 2019 and 2022 finals.
The South Korean coach also helped the senior team gain outstanding achievements, including winning the 2018 AFF Cup, progressing through to 2019 Asian Cup quarter-finals, and entering 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, final round. He also accomplished his promise to rank Vietnam in the Top 100 in the FIFA rankings.
Park ended his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation in January 2022. The coach has since not led any team, but there are rumors that he has had negotiations with Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, although he has denied them all.
Park is currently managing a community football academy on the outskirts of Hanoi.
The Vietnamese Football League Second Division 2024 will run from March 28 to June 19 with the participation of 14 teams.
