Do Khanh Huyen (left) now happy at school
Do Khanh Huyen is studying at Gia Thuong Primary School in Long Bien District. She was diagnosed with cardiac lymphoma and needed urgent treatment. In a year, their families borrowed money from relatives, neighbours, banks and black markets for hundreds of millions of VND for her treatment.
However, the money still couldn't afford Huyen's full treatment and they struggled to repay the debt. The whole family depends on VND150,000 (USD6.5) daily wages of Huyen's father at the wood workshop. Her mother was pregnant at the time so she had to quit her job.
Many readers have called and sent them gifts after reading about their situation. Nearly VND200m (USD8,600) have been donated to Huyen to help her fight cancer.
Dantri representative transferred VND104,135,000 in donations to Huyen last year.
Huyen's family receives the donation
Nguyen Thi Thuy, Huyen's mother, said, "Thanks to everyone's help that after the treatment last year, her condition became better and she could return to school. She was really happy. The school and food supplier also let me work at the canteen to better take care of her."
Tong Bich Hong, the headteacher of Class 4A3, said, "This is such a miracle. Seeing Huyen studies and plays with other children, no one can think that she is fighting cancer."
Because of difficulties, Huyen's mother said she had never dreamt of this day.
