Firm fined VND9.6 billion for illegal sand mining in Vinh Long
Authorities of the southern province of Vinh Long have fined a company VND9.6 billion (USD391,836) for illegal sand mining on a local river.
Trung Hung Environment Company headquartered in the northern province of Ninh Binh was found mining around 700 cubic metres of sand on the Hau River in Tra On District’s Phu Thanh Commune without being licensed.
The firm was fined VND350 million for illicit sand excavation. It was also imposed an additional fine of VND9.25 billion, equivalent to the value of the barge and crane involved in the violation.

The illegal sand mining in the Mekong Delta region has remained complicated with increasingly sophisticated and aggressive tactics. Many sand thieves actively resist authorities and deliberately provide false information, making it challenging for management agencies in handling violations.
