Retail prices of E5 RON 92 petrol fell by VND 2,390 per litre to VND 22,340 (approximately USD 0.90), while RON 95 declined by VND 2,990 to VND 23,540 per litre (approximately USD 0.95).
Diesel prices saw a steeper cut of VND 9,880 per litre, bringing the price to VND 32,960 (approximately USD 1.30). Mazut also decreased by VND 1,660 to VND 22,610 per kilogram (approximately USD 0.90).
This marks the second consecutive session of sharp declines in domestic fuel prices.
Since the start of the year, RON 95 petrol prices have risen 12 times, fallen nine times and remained unchanged twice.
Vietnam’s current fuel price levels are considered moderate and remain lower than those in neighbouring countries.
Global supply disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East since late February have affected fuel and gas markets worldwide, including Vietnam.
At a government press briefing last week, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said the country’s two refineries, Dung Quat and Nghi Son, have sufficient crude supply to maintain production through the end of April.
In March, fuel importers brought in 3.2 million cubic metres of petroleum products. Combined with existing inventories of around 2.6 to 2.8 million cubic metres, domestic supply is expected to meet production and consumption needs through April.
Authorities have urged major distributors to diversify supply sources and prepare import plans for May to ensure stable fuel availability.
