Launched on August 19, 2025, the project has entered its foundation phase after more than seven months of development, with key infrastructure gradually taking shape.

Located in Bac Ninh Province, the airport spans nearly 1,960 hectares and carries a total investment of over VND 196 trillion (approximately USD 7.7 billion). Phase one is estimated at VND 141 trillion (approximately USD 5.5 billion), while phase two will require more than VND 55 trillion (approximately USD 2.2 billion).

The airport is being built to meet 4F standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, enabling it to handle large wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380.
Plans include two runways ranging from 3,500 to 4,000 metres in length. Once fully completed, the airport is expected to handle around 50 million passengers and 2.5 million tonnes of cargo annually.

In phase one, scheduled through 2030, capacity is projected at 30 million passengers and 1.6 million tonnes of cargo per year. The initial passenger terminal, located on the eastern side, will be designed for 30 million passengers annually before expanding westward to reach 50 million by 2050.
Construction of the VIP terminal has completed piling and foundation work and is moving into the superstructure phase. The cargo terminal will initially be located on the eastern side, with plans for expansion in the same direction by 2050.

Land to the south has been reserved as a contingency for future cargo terminal expansion should demand exceed design capacity.
Gia Binh International Airport is expected to reshape northern Vietnam’s aviation infrastructure, easing pressure on Noi Bai International Airport and boosting the region’s overall transport capacity.
