Three killed as truck rolls downhill in Lam Dong

Three people died after a truck lost control and rolled down a mountainside in Lam Dong Province on April 8, crashing into a workers’ facility below.

According to local authorities, the accident occurred at around 8.30 am when a truck transporting telecommunications equipment was heading up Ta Zon Mountain. At a transfer point about 200 metres above the base, workers unloaded part of the cargo to prepare for cable transport.

After unloading, the driver moved the vehicle slightly to create space, but the truck is believed to have lost its brakes and slid down the slope, crashing into a workers’ canteen at a quarry site.

Two victims died at the scene, while a third died on the way to hospital. The victims were three men aged between 25 and 49. The 27-year-old driver was injured and is being treated at Binh Thuan General Hospital.

Ta Zon Mountain, located in Ham Thuan Commune, rises to 386 metres and is surrounded by multiple active granite quarries. A microwave transmission tower operated by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group stands at its summit. Goods are typically transported by truck partway up the mountain before being hauled to the top via cable systems.
