Around 2,700 households in the northern province of Ninh Binh are battling flooding due to the rising water level on Hoang Long River.

Most of the households are in Nho Quan and Gia Vien districts. Duc Long, Gia Thuy and Lac Van communes in Nho Quan District are being hardest hit with 924, 786 and 514 households affected respectively.

Many areas in Nho Quan are witnessing inundation of 1-2 metres.

This the second floods that residents have had to endure since 2017. Although no casualties have been recorded, local residents have suffered huge losses to property and daily living difficulties because of power outages and the shortage of necessities. They mainly depend on aid.

Hundreds of households in Kenh Ga District in Gia Vien have been facing floodwaters since September 8. People have to travel by boat.

By late Friday, as many as 1,000 households in Gia Vien were still submerged, including 600 totally isolated.

Floodwaters on Hoang Long River have receded but remain high. People in Nho Quan and Gia Vien may remain isolated for three to five days to come.
