At the site, many acacia trees with diameters ranging from 6 to 30 centimetres had been cut close to the base. The deforested area is located next to the resettlement zone of An Loc village residents.
Le Ngoc Tuan, head of Hue City’s Forest Protection Sub-Department, said forest rangers are investigating those involved in the sale, purchase, and transport of the felled acacia trees from the protective forest. The agency assessed that the case shows signs of large-scale organised logging.
The protective forest in An Loc Village was planted nearly 20 years ago to help prevent sand drift, erosion, and coastal encroachment.
