Vietnam’s weightlifting team have wrapped up a successful campaign at the 2025 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in Kazakhstan, earning a total of 11 gold, 11 silver, and 10 bronze medals and finishing third overall.
In the junior category, Vietnamese lifters claimed 8 gold, 6 silver, and 2 bronze medals, securing third place, following Kazakhstan and India. In the youth category, the team added 3 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze medals to its tally.
This year’s results mark a significant achievement for Vietnam's youth weightlifting programme. Rising stars like Luong Thi Thanh Tuyen, Hung Van The, Dao Thi Yen, K’Duong, and Ka Hoai all brought home gold medals.
Notably, K'Duong set an Asian youth record in the 60kg weight category, after lifting 120kg in snatch, 162kg in clean and jerk, and 282kg in total.
“The competition was fierce this year, with many countries fielding strong young lifters. Our team included promising athletes being prepared for long-term development, and each result provides valuable data for our technical and training assessments,” said coach Luu Van Thang.
Held from July 4 to July 11 in Kazakhstan, the 2025 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships attracted more than 330 athletes from 25 countries and territories worldwide to compete in 20 weight categories in age groups from 17 to 20. Vietnam sent 14 weightlifters to the tournament.
The championship was an opportunity for young weightlifters to affirm their place in the international arena, while honing their skills and preparing for upcoming tournaments.
