A flock of around 100 rare and endangered Oriental Darters has appeared at a tourist site in the southern province of Dong Nai.

According to a representative of the Buu Long Tourist Site in Bien Hoa City, the birds were found nesting in a tree in the middle of a lake at the site.

The site management board is coordinating with concerned agencies to protect the birds. Visitors can only observe from a distance and are banned from any actions that might scare the birds away.

This flock of Oriental Darters consists of individuals of different ages, living in groups and often moving around the lake to seek food and resting on high branches.

Oriental Darters were first found at the tourist site in 2019, with a population of around 500. But the number has sharply fallen since then. The species is named in Group 1B of Vietnam's Red Book and is considered rare and endangered, with a high risk of extinction.
