According to the Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Limited Company, both black and white swans have been brought to the lake after the lake cleanup was finished.
Hanoi has imported swans from Belgium for Hoan Kiem Lake
Vo Tien Hung, general director of the company, said that the swans were imported from Belgium and expected to adapt to Vietnamese climate.
“If the pilot breeding is successful and supported by the public, we will import more swans for the lake,” Hung added.
Hung noted that this idea has been supported by experts from Vietnam Society for Biology.
Professor Nguyen Lan Dung, chairman of the society, said that many countries have swans on their lakes and it would help beautify Hoan Kiem Lake.
Dung believed the lake could host up to 50-100 swans.
“Belgian swans can adapt well to hot and cold weather, so they can live in Hanoi. However, I am worried that they would be stolen by people who often fish at the lake,” Dung said.
