Northern region to expect rain as heat wave eases

The intense heat wave plaguing the northern region over the past few days is forecasted to end on August 12 when a low tropical pressure area will trigger wind and rain, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The region has seen a widespread heat wave, with temperatures ranging between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius over the past few days.

Some mountainous provinces, including Son La and Hoa Binh, and northern and central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, have been the hardest hit by the heat wave. Average temperatures have ranged from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, peaking at over 38 degrees Celsius in some localities.

The high temperature, coupled with the lowest relative humidity of 50 to 55 per cent during this period, has posed threats of fires and explosions in residential areas due to the increased demand for electricity and forest fires in central localities, the centre reported.

The heat wave is predicted to last until August 11, and rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to occur in the whole region on August 12 and August 13.
