According to the Yen Lao Railway Company, trains have resumed operation on the Hanoi-Lao Cai route since 9 pm on October 8 after the landslides in Van Yen were cleared. However, all the trains running through this section have to travel at less than five kilometres per hour.

"We're still carrying out some work on the line to reinforce the foundation of the railway," the company said.

Earlier a section of the railway faced serious landslides and flooding following prolonged heavy rains and local authorities had to suspend train services on the route from 2 am on October 7 for repair work.

The floods and landslides caused three deaths in Yen Bai and left one missing in Thai Nguyen between October 6-8.
