The Vietnam Football Federation has extended the contract of goalkeeping coach Lee Woon Jae, an assistant to head coach Kim Sang Sik for the Vietnam national team and U23 Vietnam.

A signing ceremony was held at the VFF headquarters on the morning of April 6.

The new agreement runs until 2027, reflecting the federation’s confidence in the South Korean coach, who oversees goalkeeping training for both the national team and U23 Vietnam.

VFF general secretary Nguyen Van Phu praised Lee’s contributions to the teams’ achievements over the past year.

These include winning the ASEAN Cup 2024, securing qualification for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup finals, claiming a gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games and a bronze medal at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup. Under his guidance, Vietnam’s goalkeepers have shown strong performances, with younger players gaining valuable experience and development.

Nguyen Van Phu expressed confidence that Lee will continue to play an important role in preparations for upcoming competitions, including the ASEAN Cup and the Asian Games later this year.

Lee thanked the federation for its trust and said he would continue working closely with Kim Sang Sik to achieve the team’s targets.

Born in 1973, Lee Woon Jae is a former goalkeeper for the South Korean national team. He played alongside Kim Sang Sik between 2000 and 2007 and featured in four FIFA World Cups in 1994, 2002, 2006 and 2010, with a fourth-place finish in 2002 among his achievements.

At club level, he won four K-League titles and one AFC Champions League title.

Lee joined Vietnamese football in late 2024 and has worked with Kim Sang Sik since signing with VFF following Vietnam’s ASEAN Cup 2024 triumph.
