Le Quang Liem secured his place in the tournament with a direct invitation from the International Chess Federation (FIDE), thanks to his world ranking as the 23rd-best player globally.
Banh Gia Huy earned his spot after helping the Vietnamese men’s chess team finish 25th at the 2024 FIDE Chess Olympiad.
The 11th edition of the FIDE World Cup features both men’s and women’s events, with a total prize fund of USD 2 million, including a USD 120,000 first prize. Vietnam’s women’s entry, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, competed but did not secure a title.
