International Free Hugs Day has been celebrated in Vietnam in the past few years with an aim of generally lifting spirits and bridging gaps among people.

The Free Hugs Campaign was initiated on June 30, 2004 by an Australian man known only by the pseudonym, "Juan Mann”. It is a social movement involving individuals who offer hugs to strangers in public places. The hugs are meant to be random acts of kindness.

International Free Hugs Day 

The campaign became famous internationally in 2006 as the result of a music video on YouTube by the Australian band Sick Puppies, which has been viewed over 74 million times. International Free Hugs Month is celebrated from the first Saturday in July and continues until August first.

International Free Hugs Day has been around in Vietnam for five years. It is often held of the third Sunday of July annually in Hanoi and HCM City.

International Free Hugs Day (IFHD) 2014 will begin 8:15am on August 20 at Vincom Shopping Mall at 191 Ba Trieu in Hanoi. The campaign will also have a presence in HCM City and Nha Trang.
