The event was approved following a proposal from the Department of Culture and Sports.

According to organisers, the programme will take place at 6.30 am on June 28 along Le Duan Boulevard in central Ho Chi Minh City.

The event is expected to attract around 5,000 participants, including leaders from central government agencies, Ho Chi Minh City officials, representatives of government departments, socio-political organisations, members of the armed forces, youth groups, children and local residents.

The walk forms part of a series of activities commemorating the milestone anniversary, which marks five decades since the city officially adopted its current name following Vietnam's reunification.
