Hancock's Vincent Ngo takes on Vietnamese big screen

The Vietnamese-American screenwriter of the blockbuster "Hancock" filmed the movie for his latest script in Vietnam.

Vietnamese-American writer Vincent Ngo, now famous for his original script of the huge blockbuster Hollywood movie "Hancock", has written another script "De Mai Tinh" which has been directed by another Vietnamese-American and shot in Vietnam.

Dustin Nguyen plays lead roles both in "De Mai Tinh" and another new movie, "Canh Dong Bat Tan".
Director Charlie Nguyen replaced actor Binh Minh at the last minute.

"De Mai Tinh" (Leave It 'Till Tomorrow), directed by Charlie Nguyen, is a love story set in the context of the modern world. Mai (Kathy Nguyen) plays a beautiful overseas Vietnamese woman from Germany with a dream to become a famous singer in Saigon. Fate arranged for her to meet Dung (Dustin Nguyen), a gentle and kind young man, working as an employee of a hotel. The two hearts become attached from the very first time they meet. Dung is certain he has finally fallen in love.

However, everything changes, when Mai meets a wealthy and powerful businessman named Antoine. With the power and money Antoine has, Mai foresees her big dream coming true and she begins to fall into the arms of Antoine. Feeling wretched when losing Mai, Dung starts to befriend complicated characters in the rich world, and one of them is Hoi (Thai Hoa), a successful and gay businessman. Dung accepted to be around Hoi, accepted to live in a world that he did not belong to, just to have a chance to hear from Mai and be near her.

"De Mai Tinh" began shooting in late 2009, but troubles arose with the casting of characters. Initially, Mai's role was assigned to singer Tina Tinh. However, due to some rumours, Tina Tinh lost her part and she was replaced by Kathy Uyen. The role of the wealthy and powerful Antoine was originally played by Binh Minh, but after a few shots, Binh Minh became ill and had to stay in the hospital for a week. The film crew could not wait for Binh Minh's recovery as the movie set had to be paid for every single day, and the time was too short and the situation too urgent to find a new actor. Director Charlie Nguyen then decided to play the role of Antonie himself.

The script of "De Mai Tinh" was written by Vincent Ngo, who became famous for his "Hancock" movie script - the movie that Hollywood once expected would make a fortune at the box office. Vincent Ngo, born in 1966 in Vietnam, moved to America when he was 4 years old and has lived there since 1975. Vincent has a bachelor's degree in Literature from the University of California, Irvine and also a master's degree in Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Huge expectations are being placed on the screening of "De Mai Tinh", which opens on April 30 - May 1.
