A poor woman in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong is calling for financial support so that she can take care of her five small children after her husband recently died.

The death of her husband has left Doan Thi Ha alone having to look after five children.
Ha who lives in Nam Nung Commune, Krong No District, said that she and her husband, who are Nung ethnic minority people, got married in 2000 and had five children. Despite living in the poverty, the couple tried to work as hired labourers so that they could afford to send their children to school.
Last year, her husband was diagnosed with serious pneumonia by doctors at a local hospital. He was advised to go to a better hospital to seek medical treatment. However, due to the family’s financial situation, he continued working to earn money.
He then suffered an emergency and died on the way to hospital.
Ha’s health has worsened since her husband’s death; so, after school, her two eldest children, 12 years old, have to come to a nearby forest to look for bamboo sprouts and vegetables for their meals. The two children work looking after cows for a local villager.
Their daily meals only include rice and vegetables, Ha said.
The mother hopes to have money to repair her dilapidated house and buy a bicycle for her children to go to school. The two eldest children have to walk 10 kilometres for school.
