A poor widow in Nghe An Province is in desperate need of support to save her 12-year-old boy who suffers from leukemia.
Tu is very interested in comic books
Dinh Thi Hien of Quynh Luu District said she has been the best to work very hard and earn money for treatment of her 12-year-old son, Vu Cong Tu, who was diagnosed with leukemia several years ago.
Hien has had to borrow from her relatives and neighbours and now owes a total of VND200 million. Hien also has two other children.
Since late 2011, Tu’s skin has been bruised. Doctors at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion diagnosed Tu. Since then he has not been able to go to school because of the treatment.
Tu’s farther died of a stroke, leaving his mother to support the family on her own. Tu often has to take a bus from Nghe An to Hanoi for the treatment by himself. He is 12 years old, but weighs only 23 kilogrammes.
Doctor Vu Hong Nhung, from the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, said that the treatment now seems to be ineffective and the cancer is spreading.
Mrs. Hien said that some days ago, she had to borrow VND250,000 from a relative to go to Hanoi to meet her son. She had to forgo meals herself in order to feed her son.
