A family of five in Can Tho City is struggling with poverty while all family members are facing with serious diseases.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Oc Buu and her 11-year-old daughter are suffering from heart failure. Meanwhile, her youngest child aged four is coping up with cerebral palsy.
Her husband has genital problems that needs urgent operations. However, due to financial difficulties, he cannot afford the treatment.
Mrs. Buu and her husband, Tran Thanh Sang, got married over 10 years ago and had three children. Their two elder children have to work to support the family, so they do not have a chance to go to school.
Mr. Sang said since getting married, they has worked as hired workers for local farmers to earn living. By the end of 2012, his house collapsed and his family had to move to the current house which was lent by his sister. Recently, the farmers have machines to do the work, so he and his wife have got unemployed and moved to the neigbouring Binh Duong City to seek for other jobs.
In Binh Duong, Sang worked for a timber workshop and Buu and their eldest child picked up rubber latex. The couple borrowed a plot of land of the rubber farm owner to set up a temporary house to live.
In April 2013, Sang had serious stomachache and was diagnosed with some genital problems. Nonetheless, without money, he returned home to continue working, making the disease becoming more serious.
The wife then took her eldest daughter to HCM City to work as domestic helps, receiving a monthly salary of VND2 million each. She says that her only dream is to have money to give the treatment to her husband and take her children to school.
Buu herself is also facing with heart failure, but because of the family situation, she cannot receive treatment while still trying to work to earn money.
Speaking with DTiNews reporter, Tran Van Khai, deputy head of Dong Hoa A Village, Dong Thuan Commune, said the village has 100 households, but nine out of this are poor. Mr. Sang’s family is the poorest.
